Associate Professor E. Alison Holman, PhD, FNP from the UC Irvine Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing, has been selected for Fellowship in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). This is the highest level of honor given to nurses with outstanding contributions and achievements in nursing.
Dr. E. Alison Holman, PhD, FNP, is an internationally known interdisciplinary scholar whose groundbreaking research incorporates several methodologies to discover knowledge that informs the development of interventions to prevent trauma-related morbidity and mortality in vulnerable populations. Her work has had an impact on the national and international stage through publications in high-profile journals, invited addresses, and media interviews around the globe.
In addition to Dr. Holman’s research, she has made an indelible contribution to the nursing profession by tirelessly leading the University of California, Irvine Program in Nursing Science at a critical period in its history. Through Dr. Holman’s administrative leadership, she secured resources and ushered the Program through its transition into the 4th UC nursing school: the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing.
As a dedicated educator, Dr. Holman uses her knowledge of psychology and passion for equity and justice to educate students about implicit biases, their role in shaping health disparities, and mechanisms to reduce their impact on healthcare. Dr. Holman brought curriculum on implicit bias and motivational interviewing into classes with other health professional students to raise awareness about their impact on healthcare delivery.
